President of the Management Board of the COBI capital group
Robert Podleś
President of the Management Board of the COBI capital group
Founder and CEO of the COBI capital group, the largest manufacturer of building blocks in Central and Eastern Europe with sales offices in the US, England, Germany, France, and the Czech Republic, and one of the two largest Polish distributors of global toy brands.
His life is a perfect example of how passion, determination, and 100% commitment can break down all obstacles and even revolutionize the industry in which one operates.
He began his business career in 1987 by founding a small family business producing puzzles and board games. After just three years of operation, he achieved spectacular success when his game “Komandosi” won the title of Game of the Year from “Razem” magazine and was the first toy to be advertised on television. As a visionary who never takes shortcuts, he wanted to continue creating products with amazing possibilities for children. That is why, in 1991, he began producing building blocks under the name COBI. He achieved another success, but with the popularity of his product came obstacles, which in 1995 led to a long-running legal dispute with a Danish global giant producing building blocks. The year 2002 was decisive for COBI, as it answered the most important question of “to be or not to be.” Robert Podleś ultimately won the case before the Supreme Court in Poland, and in 2006, also before the Supreme Court in Sweden. These rulings revolutionized not only the Polish but also the global toy industry, giving consumers a free choice among different brands of building blocks. Currently, Robert Podleś sells his products on all continents, in 50 countries around the world.
His second passion—sports and pushing the limits of his own abilities—also helped him in business. He has been an ultra-marathon runner for 15 years. He has participated in over 100 ultra-marathons on all continents and won the prestigious Abbot World Marathons Majors. With his example and will to fight in pursuit of his goals, he also perfectly motivates others on their path to self-development. For two years, he has been developing a new sporting passion – golf, constantly on the move and never resting on his laurels.
Privately, he is the father of two sons, one of whom has joined the family business.
